Eleven years ago Poop Deck proprietor Lynn Hartley moved to Mersea Island from Sussex where she had a successful antiques business for many years. The Poop Deck began in Rainbow Road and expanded to the shop on Coast Road, where it has become a huge success, and is Mersea Island’s most eclectic shop!

Treasures on the Island and Frock of Ages proprietor, Heather Jarvis has a background in fashion and sold vintage clothes in London in the 1970s. She has carried on her family tradition of collecting and selling antiques, and combines this with a range of contemporary and ethnic interiors, and new ladies wear, and a dress agency at the Poop Deck Emporium.

CELEBRITY ANTIQUES ROADTRIP

The Roadtrip team visited the Poop Deck with antiques expert Philip Serrell and renowned actor Duncan Preston. Philip declared ‘what a lovely shop, we should not discount shops like this!’

Great fun ensued with Duncan playing a banjo and all joining in with a rendition of ‘when I’m cleaning windows!’ We were delighted when the nautical items they chose were the only ones to make a profit at auction!

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW

Heather appeared on Antiques Roadshow when it visited Layer Marney Towers.

Researchers visited her home and were interested to hear of her time at the iconic fashion store Biba, and asked her to bring her Biba collection to the show.

Katherine Higgins was entranced by the collection, which included clothes, catalogues, lamps, feathers, china with the Biba logo, furniture and behind the scenes rare memorabilia.

POOP DECK BIBA EXHIBITION

The collection was showcased for a month in Mersea at the shop, creating lots of interest with locals and visitors from far and wide.
